Reconstruction of the acting furnaces and transference of the existing electric arc furnaces in-to DC supply

Our company has an extensive experience in the execution of works related to reconstruction and modernization of electric arc furnaces.
Due to the modernization of the existing electric arc furnaces the following tasks  are executed:

  • transference of the existing electric arc furnaces into dc supply;
  • replacement of the electrodes moving mechanism with DC motors by a modern electrodes moving mechanism based on the electromechanical drive with a frequency converter , which allows to perform the high-speed and sensitive control of the electric furnace mode;
  • replacement of the pump station by a modern hydraulic unit that ensures a reliable operation of the electric mechanisms . In the high pressure conditions it is possible to reduce the size of the executive cylinders and plungers;
  • replacement of electric furnaces roofs by the combined ones with a water-cooled central part;
  • modernization of the electric furnace control system. The transition to a modern microprocessor electric furnace control system formed on the uniform constructibles by using advanced and reliable components. Modern electric furnace control system allows to provide: parameters control and electric melting mode control, considering technological factors; melting and slag foaming intensification systems, actuators , water- cooled elements parameters control; visualization of the melting process and equipment operation.

Examples of possible modernizations of electric arc furnaces
Development of the design documentation for the reconstruction of the electric furnace ДСП-25 with its capacity reduction to 12 tons. Implemented to the Kryvorizhstal JSC (ArselorMitall Krivoy Rog) in 1999. Up to now it has been successfully smelting various grades of steel. Later at these enterprises we performed the reconstruction of 5 furnaces with their transference into dc supply and also reduced the capacity of the electric furnace ДСП-25 from 25 to 12 tons.

Development of the design documentation for the reconstruction of the electric furnace  ДСП-3,0 with its transference into dc supply. Implemented to the Dionis JSC in May, 2007.

Development of the design documentation for the reconstruction and commissioning of the electric furnace ДСП- 6 ,0 with its transfer into the DC supply. Implemented to the Kryvorizhstal  JSC in October, 2004. This unit successfully and smoothly smelts manganese and stainless steel. There were problems during the carbon steel smelting with a long oxidation period, but due to our recommendations the main problems were removed. This electric furnace showed high performance results.
Development of the design documentation for the reconstruction of three electric furnaces ДСП-12-Н2 with their transfer into the DC supply for the Ferrotrading JSC , Zaporozhye. These electric furnaces  are used for the remelting of ferromanganese and silicon manganese screenings, steelmaking from the slag - metal mixture, smelting of various grades of steel from the scrap metal.
